27 Nov Gault&Millau Chef of the Year 2018
Dear guests, collegues & friends,
to be honest, today is one of the most important & beautiful days in my entire professional life – a dream I’ve had since my childhood finally came true.
Gault&Millau “Chef of the year” is one of the most prestigious honors in our profession – despite all my experiences in life, I still cannot express how proud & thankful I am.
I think I’m not the only one who is surprised by this award – my relation with Gault&Millau has always been controversial and not always fully comprehensible, but maybe there’s a message behind it: In a time of media politics and fast internet, it’s still the continuity and hard work that counts, and that is what we live for.
For this reason, it’s now time to say “Thank you”!
Firstly, to the ZS publishing house and Patricia Bröhm, the head editor of Gault&Millau, who has been watching my work for the past years unbiased and attentively. Thank you very much for your constant trust & confirmation of our work.
I would like to thank our dear guests, who have been loyal for the past 20 years. They have been our motivation and many have become our personal friends.
Today I only (!) accept this award as a representative of my „Schloss-Berg-family“. A warm thank you to my current team in the kitchen, service, reception & stewarding, and all who have been accompanying me in the past 20 years here at Schloss Berg – today you are all “Chef of the year” as well!!!
I would also like to thank the entire Victor’s company – I’m still proud to work for them!
Dear Mrs. Kleehaas, dear Mr. Ostermann – our successes are closely related with your names. Without your vision and support, none of this would have been possible. You always believed in us and you gave us the necessary freedom for our creativity. Thank you very much!
I infinitely owe my family – they give me calm and peace & the necessary strength to succeed. Our wonderful daughters Katharina & Lisa-Marie never had a “normal” father, but one who was always working far into the night in the kitchen… Nevertheless, they always stood behind me – today they are grown up and I am unbelievably proud of my two angels.
Endless thanks to my wife Yildiz who has accompanied me since the beginning of my career. For 30 years she has been by my side supporting me at home and at work – and as the face of the dining room, she is also significantly involved in the success & the reputation of “our” restaurant. So much respect for this – I love you!
Since the beginning, our motto & our passion has been to make people happy. Today many people made ME happy. Thanks a lot!
Sincerely, Christian Bau
